    The early history of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai begins with Prithivi Narayan Shah, the King of Gorkha, who conquered Kathmandu Valley in 1768 and established Nepal as a unified state. He had six daughters and four sons—Batuk Prasad, Narayan Prasad, Gopal Prasad and Krishna Prasad. Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was the youngest son from mother Lalita Devi. Krishna Prasad, or KP, Bhattarai was born in Banaras on December 22, 1924, on Krishna ekadashi. He was educated there and loved sports, among which swimming and dandi biyo (guli danda) were his favourites.
